A £29 million study commissioned by the NHS has concluded that people over the age of 95 are facing major health problems from consuming too much salt.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock told Spoofflé on Friday: “These older folk just don’t realise the extreme danger they face by eating salt-laden food. It can easily knock a couple of years of their lives.”
We asked Mr Hancock why a 95 year old woman should be worried by downing a few extra bags of pork scratchings, when she would already have expected to pop off by the time she had reached the average UK expiry age of 83.
“That’s news to me,” he said. “I’ll get one of my people to look into it.”
